Portriats

Avery- she is 1 1/2 years old.
Cooper- almost 3

Here are some portraits I took. I have two right now, the other will be coming soon...

  1. The top one especially is very cute. however, both of them look more like snapshots rather than portraits because of the backgrounds. Remember, the background is very important because you don't want it to be noticed. It should not compete for attention. In the top photo, the background is very busy and that white basket is the very first thing you see. In the bottom photo, that railing and containers at the top just scream for attention.

    It's best to take the portraits outside in the shade so you don't have use flash but have enough light to take a nice photograph. In the top photo, you used flash, which made the lighting very harsh. In the bottom photo, you didn't use flash, but were indoors, so the photo was underexposed.

    The pose in the top photo was great and it looks wonderful. We will be studying posing more this week. It a bummer we haven't had class in the past two weeks! For your third portrait, take it outside in the shade and pay attention to the background. Also, make sure the background is in shade too and there is no leopard lighting. If the subject is in shade and the background is in sun, it will look really bad. Happy shooting, and don't worry, we're all learning!
